If you have experienced the loss of a loved one it can be overwhelming, and we can guide you through the process. We can assist you with making key decisions according to your personal, cultural or religious beliefs.
It is important to remember that making the right decisions now, regarding burial or cremation and choosing the right memorial location, will help to give you peace of mind for the times ahead.
Once the Funeral Director delivers the deceased for cremation, the coffin remains securely sealed. The staff handles the coffin only for insertion into the cremation chamber.
Our cremations are undertaken by professional and qualified staff and completed with dignity and respect. Wollongong Memorial Gardens Crematorium strictly adheres to the requirements of the NSW Health Act.
All fittings are cremated, with the exception of the name plate which stays with the ashes, ensuring the correct identification of the ashes. However, any metal objects including handles are removed.
Wollongong Memorial Gardens offers a wide variety of beautiful cremation memorial options throughout our gardens. This service provides families and friends with a place of permanent remembrance. You may choose from a garden setting, a special tree, shrub, rock or wall niche. Single, double and multiple plaque options are available.
For those who prefer to scatter their loved one's ashes, we provide a number of sites for a memorial plaque to be placed without interment of ashes. For those wishing to retain part or all of the ashes, hand crafted jewellery, and small and large keepsake urns are available.
If burial is the preferred option, we encourage you to visit Wollongong Lawn Cemetery so we can show you around our grounds and explain the various options and locations available. As this is a long-term decision, we want you to feel comfortable, knowing you have chosen the most appropriate style of burial, in an ideal location suited to you.
If the northern suburbs is your preferred location, we have sites available at Helensburgh Cemetery, and also limited sites at Scarborough Cemetery.
Our cemeteries give you options for burial in a lawn section where plaques are placed on concrete beams with your choice of memorial wording. Headstone sections have headstones placed on concrete beams with the remaining gravesite area being lawn. Monument sections have the entire gravesite covered by a granite monument.
If you are unsure whether to decide on burial or cremation, Wollongong Memorial Gardens staff are on hand to help and to arrange a tour of our grounds. Please contact us for more information.
