Superbly landscaped gardens and panoramic views of the nearby Illawarra
escarpment are part of the charm of the Wollongong City Memorial
Gardens. Established in August 1959, the colourful and spacious
gardens are a serene, tranquil place for those people preferring
the option of cremation. Full cremation facilities including two
chapels for memorial services are on-site.
The need for a memorial – During times of bereavement it
is important to have a visual link between the past and the future.
A memorial of any description helps to celebrate the life of someone
dear to you whilst providing a focus for many generations to come.
The memorial site is a place where you can go alone or with family
and friends to observe an anniversary or to simply reflect on your
memories.
There are many and varied options available for memorialisation
including placement at rose bushes, native gardens, baby gardens,
Ex Services gardens and wall placements and memorial wall placements.
Wollongong City Memorial Gardens provides dignified and serene
facilities for the final service for your loved ones in one of our
two chapels.
The Family Chapel seats 60 people and provide an intimate atmosphere
for smaller services.
The Main Chapel has a seating capacity of 200 people, with standing
room for an additional 400 people.
Both chapels are tastefully decorated with stained glass murals
over the catafalques. The Main Chapel has the facility for audio
taping the service. The playing of CD’s and tapes, and the
Last Post, as a mark of respect for deceased service personnel is
available in both chapels.
Wollongong City Memorial Gardens is located in Berkeley Road, Unanderra.
Office hours are between 9am – 5pm Mondays to Fridays and
