The newest of the cemeteries managed by Wollongong City Council,
the Wollongong Lawn Cemetery at Kembla Grange, was opened in 1979.
The 65-hectare site is spaciously laid out with a full range of
burial
options
including traditional full monumental portions, lawn areas with
bronze plaque memorialisation and above ground crypt mausoleum
burials available.
Wollongong is a multicultural area, which is reflected in the
portions in the cemetery. Ethnic burial requirements are covered
by the Macedonian
Portion, offering full monument sites, Muslim Portion with graves
facing Mecca and the mausoleum for individuals who prefer the
traditional
European method of burying the body in an above-ground crypt.
The main burial areas in the cemetery are non-denominational with
bronze or granite plaques placed onto concrete beams. Rose bushes
and conifer plants are planted between the concrete beams. Separate
sections are set aside for children and baby burial areas. Headstone
beam portions are available for those families who prefer a more
traditional memorialisation option.
A majestic Renaissance-style mausoleum complete with a family
capella has been erected at Kembla Grange. The mausoleum provides
an above ground
burial facility for families.
Fresh cut floral tributes may be placed at the grave sites at
any time. Special vases are available at the cemetery, placed
at different
sections of the cemetery. To ensure that the dignified and beautiful
atmosphere is maintained, any other types of containers, ornaments
or artificial flowers are not permitted and will be removed. Your
compliance with this request is appreciated, as it protects the
overall appearance of the cemetery and allows essential maintenance
to be carried out.
Kembla Grange Lawn Cemetery is located off West Dapto Road, Kembla
Grange. Pedestrian and vehicular access is restricted to daylight
hours only.
